New Jersey Solar Renewable Energy Credits are tradable certificates awarded for each kWh of solar electricity produced by an eligible system. Electricity suppliers need to meet the state’s Renewable Portfolio Standard and must buy or pay a fee if they fall short of the percentage New Jersey requires of sourcing solar as an energy provider.
When a New Jersey solar energy system produces more electricity than the organization actually uses, the organization will be compensated with credits at the full retail value of the electricity for the production over and above what they use.
This provides commercial solar energy consumers an alternative income stream.
New Jersey state solar energy systems are exempt from property tax increases. This means that while solar panels can increase your commercial property’s market value, your organization will not pay additional property taxes on that added value.
New Jersey offers a 100% sales tax exemption for the purchase and installation of solar energy systems. This exemption applies to all major types of solar energy equipment, as well as design, engineering, and installation fees.
