Burlington County Manufacturer — 1.2 MW Solar + 250 kWh Battery

The 1.2 MW combined solar plus 250 kWh battery system at this Burlington County manufacturer demonstrates how solar + storage economics compound when a facility has the right load profile. Built in 2024, the project combines an 850 kW rooftop array with a 350 kW ground-mount on an adjacent vacant parcel, paired with a 250 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery for demand-charge offset.

The manufacturer has a compressor-cycling load profile — sharp peaks when compressors restart that drove ~$22/kW demand charges on the PSE&G GLP rate schedule. Solar alone would offset energy, but battery storage was needed to shave the peak demand. The combined system was sized against the specific bill profile, not generic vendor estimates.

The rooftop portion used ballasted attachment on a TPO single-ply roof. Ground-mount occupied an adjacent 2-acre vacant parcel using driven-pile foundations after geotechnical testing confirmed bearing capacity. The battery was installed in a purpose-built enclosure with NJ fire code (IFC) compliant ventilation and suppression. Parallel transformer tie-in eliminated any outage during AC connection — non-negotiable for the facility’s process power continuity.

The system has operated within 1.5% of PVsyst model since commissioning. Annual production averages 1,450,000 kWh — offsetting approximately 70% of the facility’s electricity consumption. The battery reduces peak demand by 180 kW, saving approximately $47,520 per year in PSE&G demand charges alone.
