Commercial Solar Canopies in New Jersey
Solar canopies put panels on a steel structure over space you already use: parking lots, truck courts, loading areas, walkways and outdoor storage.
They are a strong option when the roof is too small, too old or too shaded, and they add covered space for people, vehicles and equipment.

Industrial solar canopy systems
We design canopies around your site's traffic, clearances and drainage, then handle structural engineering, foundations, electrical work and utility approvals.
- Parking lot and carport canopies
- Truck court and loading area canopies
- Walkway and outdoor storage canopies
- EV charging-ready designs
What we review before designing a canopy
- Site plan, traffic flow and vehicle clearances
- Soil and foundation conditions
- Accessible parking and ADA requirements
- Stormwater and lighting under the canopy
- Electrical route to your service
Incentives for commercial solar canopies
What we typically review (eligibility and amounts vary):
Federal tax credit:
Solar canopies can qualify for the federal investment tax credit, subject to the placed-in-service deadlines in current law.
NJ SuSI:
Eligible New Jersey canopy projects can earn production-based incentive payments; availability depends on program capacity.
Depreciation:
Commercial owners can often depreciate the system on an accelerated schedule; your tax advisor confirms the details.
Payback modeling:
We model savings with your actual rates, available area and load profile, using conservative assumptions.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a solar carport and a solar canopy?
A solar carport covers parking spaces. Solar canopy is the broader term and also includes structures over loading areas, walkways, outdoor storage and other open space. See our solar carports page for parking-focused projects.
Are you a solar canopy contractor or a manufacturer?
We are the contractor. We engineer and install the canopy using structures from established manufacturers, chosen for your site and loads.
What ADA requirements apply to solar canopies?
Columns cannot reduce the size of accessible parking spaces or access aisles, and the 2010 ADA Standards require at least 98 inches of vertical clearance at van-accessible spaces, their access aisles and the vehicle route to them.
Can a solar canopy support EV charging?
Yes. We can plan conduit and electrical capacity for EV chargers under the canopy during design, even if chargers are installed later.
When is a canopy a better choice than rooftop solar?
When the roof is small, due for replacement, shaded or not strong enough, or when you want to add covered parking or work space as well as power.
